Abstract

Bullying remains one of the most common forms of violence in schools and has significant adverse effects on adolescents' mental health, social development, and academic achievement. Limited knowledge regarding the forms, consequences, and prevention of bullying contributes to the persistence of this behaviour. Therefore, educational interventions are needed to improve students' knowledge and awareness in fostering a safe and supportive school environment. This community service program aimed to improve junior high school students' knowledge of bullying prevention through educational intervention to promote a safe and supportive school environment. The program was conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Pleret, Bantul, DIY,, Indonesia, on June 25, 2026, involving 70 students. Educational activities consisted of interactive lectures, educational video presentations, group discussions, and question-and-answer sessions. Program effectiveness was evaluated using a one-group pretest post-test design by measuring students' knowledge before and after the intervention through a structured questionnaire. The educational intervention improved students' knowledge regarding bullying prevention. The mean knowledge score increased from 14.30 ± 1.42 before the intervention to 14.80 ± 1.58 after the intervention. Furthermore, the proportion of students with good knowledge increased from 90.0% to 94.3%. Participants also demonstrated high engagement throughout the program, as reflected by their active participation during discussions and question-and-answer sessions. Bullying prevention education effectively improved students' knowledge and increased their awareness of the importance of creating a safe, supportive, and bullying-free school environment. Similar educational programs should be implemented regularly through collaboration among schools, healthcare professionals, and parents to strengthen bullying prevention efforts among adolescents.
