The fisheries sector represents one of the most hazardous occupational domains with substantial health risks; nevertheless, awareness regarding Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) culture, particularly concerning personal hygiene practices, is frequently marginalized among traditional fishermen. Inadequate implementation of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (CHLB) in maritime environments exacerbates fishermen's vulnerability to various occupational diseases, such as dermatological infections and gastrointestinal disorders. This community outreach initiative aims to fortify OHS culture among fishermen through comprehensive education on safe and healthy personal hygiene, alongside analyzing the correlation between knowledge acquisition and the manifestation of safety-oriented behaviors. Methodology encompassed a preparation phase, interactive socialization, self-hygiene simulations, and quantitative evaluation utilizing pre-test and post-test instruments. Evaluation metrics indicated that the majority of participants (80%, n=24) maintained consistently high levels of baseline knowledge, while the remaining 20% (n=6) demonstrated significant cognitive improvement following the intervention. These findings suggest that pedagogical interventions are instrumental in facilitating a paradigm shift, transitioning from a narrow perception of OHS as merely physical safety against maritime hazards to a broader recognition of hygiene as a critical individual health safeguard. In conclusion, reinforcing OHS culture through personal hygiene literacy successfully enhances the health literacy of maritime communities and establishes a framework for more hygienic operational patterns. It is recommended that the Bonto Mate’ne Village Government provide standardized sanitation infrastructure at landing sites to ensure the practical sustainability of CHLB. Furthermore, the development of community-based OHS cadres is essential for autonomous hygiene monitoring to mitigate occupational disease prevalence in coastal regions.
